Finalist, 2015
DontBottleItUp is a free online support service available 24/7 to anyone seeking advice, support, and information about their drinking.
Using a quick, easy, and confidential online questionnaire people can find out how risky their drinking is in two minutes, access advice tailored for them, and make a personalised reduction plan. DontBottleItUp tells users what support services are available in their local area, and they can book an appointment online via Skype without leaving the website. All the Skype sessions are one-to-one and led by an experienced alcohol worker who can help people to reduce and regain control over their drinking. One user describes how the service supported them:
“DontBottleItUp really helped me – I have been to the GP since and spoken to him. He gave me more advice and I am going back later in the year. I have started going to the gym instead of drinking as I am really into health anyway, and so that makes me feel good instead. I still like to drink but I have cut out down massively in the week!’
Over 14,700 people received alcohol screening and advice from DontBottleItUp last year. The linked cross-platform smartphone and tablet app, DrinkCoach, also enables people to track and change their drinking on the go. People can set goals, track how much they drink, and access videos to help them stay in control.
