Hi, my name is Libby Swan and I am a Graduate Analyst at Barclays. In my spare time I am a digital volunteer for the platform Ethical Angel, where I have the opportunity to help a wide variety of charities.
The organisations on Ethical Angel work in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, which means that they do extremely important work for communities; this is one of the reasons why I decided to become an online volunteer. Another reason is because lockdown made it extremely challenging to physically go out into the community, so I thought – why not bring the community to me?
I have volunteered digitally in the past, and I had forgotten how rewarding it is; when I discovered Ethical Angel and realised that I could use my skills to help not just one, but several different organisations at once it was like a breath of fresh air. So far I have volunteered for 15 separate organisations who focus on many different causes, including: Plan International, Clowns Without Borders, Anxious Minds, Secret World Wildlife Rescue, Tap into IT Where You Are, and Children Hope Forever, to name a few.
I have completed various projects, including: brand reviews, equality and diversity policy support, GDPR policy support, social media support, grant proposal reviews, sourcing stock images, and website functionality testing, amongst others.
The kind of project I most enjoy is translation; so far I have completed four from English into French and Spanish. At university I studied French, Mandarin Chinese and Spanish, so I have a unique skillset to offer and I always leap at the chance to put my language skills to good use! Language barriers pose a significant challenge for many organisations, so I feel lucky that I can help break some down.
Citizenship is very important to me and I am very happy to have found a platform which allows me to give back to our wonderful community. I am extremely humbled to have been nominated for this award, and I am very grateful for this opportunity – thank you!
