As well as continuously delivering within her functional role at Morgan Stanley, Margret champions technology and diversity through her work as a STEM Ambassador, facilitating a number of educational initiatives, encouraging young people to consider a career in technology.
Margret’s contributions have been recognised by colleagues as well as senior leaders across Morgan Stanley, with comments outlining a feeling pride and inspiration of Margret’s personal commitment and drive to giving back.
Margret’s most recent venture saw her utilise her tech skills to take ‘Tech She Can’ charity materials on tour to remotely located primary schools, as she travelled on a personal trip across Scotland’s North Coast 500 route. The motivation to deliver the ‘Tech Tour NC500’ was derived from Margret’s own experiences as she wanted to emulate the same excitement she felt growing up in a small town in Iceland, when people used to visit her school.
This undertaking, required diligent planning, including the route, reaching out to the schools and receiving the necessary sign offs to allow her to complete the trip. The 557-mile road trip spanned across 13 days, with Margret visiting 17 schools and allowing her to reach 684 primary school students, introducing them to technology in an interactive format. Margret surpassed her goal of meeting 500 students, with her always remembering one student that called her their “technology hero”.
In addition to Margret’s ‘Tech Tour NC500’, throughout 2022 she demonstrated her dedication to inspiring the next generation through taking part in various campus activities and in her role as a STEM Ambassador. She participated in a number of activities, providing continuous support in mentoring students of all ages and demonstrating tech activities to widen young people’s knowledge and experience.
Margret ensures students have a fun and interactive introduction to the world of technology, where she uses robots and gamified activities to teach provide a basic introduction to code and computer science. As well as her work as a STEM Ambassador, Margret undertakes a key role in the assessment interview process on behalf of campus recruitment, conducting mock interviews for local schools to help students develop their skills.
