In response to the growing need for convenient and secure IT disposal avenues for businesses, in 2020 the Edinburgh Remakery created a FREE IT Disposal Service designed to help businesses dispose of IT equipment in a safe and eco-conscious way.
As an environmental social enterprise with a mission to reduce waste and with a thriving IT repair and refurbishment department, we are experts in dealing with electronic waste. We have a number of means to keep electronic components out of landfill and in use for longer, whilst protecting business data every step of the way.
With the escalation in digital poverty and social isolation amongst disadvantaged communities as a result of Covid19, and as the success of the IT Disposal Service for Business grew, we wanted to build in a social value to the project. Throughout COVId19 we donated refurbished laptops to over 30 charities and organisations across Edinburgh to enable their beneficiaries to stay connected.
Our IT Disposal Service is an innovative project that both tackles challenges faced by businesses around E-Waste, while at the same time allowing businesses to make a real impact in their communities. Business donations allow beneficiaries in our communities to receive a free refurbished laptop that enables them to connect with valuable support services and improve their well-being.
We have created a COMMERCIAL model that also fulfils a SOCIAL VALUE role. We are leading the corporate world into a circular and social way of thinking one laptop at a time. Our Project demonstrates partnership and collaboration between business, social enterprises and charities makes a difference to Planet, People, Place and Pounds. It is steeped in the principles of a wellbeing economy and demonstrates that we can be commercial, collaborate, provide environmental benefit AND have social value. Doing business for good.
