furbd
2026, Finalist, Workplace Inclusion Award

furbd stands out for linking digital inclusion, sustainability and neurodivergent employment in one practical model. With more than 2,300 devices redistributed already, it is creating measurable impact for people and communities often left out of digital life.
furbd is tackling two connected problems at once. As more services move online, digital exclusion is pushing already disadvantaged people further behind, while neurodivergent adults remain shut out of meaningful work despite strong technical skills. At the same time, huge amounts of usable technology are still being thrown away. furbd brings these issues together through a circular model that refurbishes donated devices in a neurodivergent-led environment, then redistributes them through frontline partners to people who need them most. The impact is already clear. furbd has distributed 2,354 devices through a network of 140 distributors and 30 community drop-off points across the Tees Valley. Through reuse, it has also helped prevent an estimated 2,945 tonnes of CO2 emissions. The model matters because it does more than reduce e-waste. It increases access to jobs, healthcare, education and support for excluded communities, while creating practical skills and meaningful work for neurodivergent people in an environment designed around their strengths.
