Humanos 3D
2026, Finalist, Inclusive Education Award
Humanos 3D is compelling because it combines access, skills and local empowerment in one model. With hundreds of devices delivered and thousands trained, it is building impact that lasts beyond individual beneficiaries and can spread across communities.
Humanos 3D is solving a double exclusion problem in Colombia. Disabled people in rural and underserved communities often have little access to prosthetics or mobility aids because services are concentrated in major cities, while young people in those same areas rarely get the chance to learn digital design or see themselves as creators of technology. Humanos 3D responds by combining affordable 3D-printed assistive devices with mobile clinics and inclusive STEAM education, bringing support and innovation directly into communities rather than expecting people to travel. The impact is already clear. The organisation has delivered 472 personalised assistive devices across Colombia, with mobile clinics averaging more than 100 devices a year since 2020. It has also trained over 2,000 teachers, librarians, students and community leaders in inclusive STEAM education and 3D design. In 2024 it deliberately reduced production to 38 devices so it could focus on deeper personalisation and long-term usability. That matters because the goal is not just more devices, but better outcomes, dignity and genuine participation. The model is now showing international potential too, with training initiatives already extended to Kenya and Rwanda.
