Lifelites 25: Transforming access to assistive tech for seriously ill children
2026, Digital Inclusion Award, Finalist
Lifelites 25 shows how specialist technology can unlock joy, communication and connection for children too often excluded from digital life. Its early outcomes are strong, and the model is already scaling to reach hundreds more children through partner organisations.
Lifelites 25 is tackling a hidden form of digital exclusion affecting children with life-limiting conditions and profound disabilities. More than 100,000 children in the UK live with these conditions, yet many cannot use mainstream technology and are shut out of communication, learning, play and connection. Specialist services often lack the funding, skills and equipment to meet this need. Lifelites 25 responds by providing tailored assistive technology, training and support to schools, NHS services and community organisations. The impact is already strong. In its first year, the programme reached more than 1,100 children and young people across seven partner organisations. Impact monitoring showed over 90% positive outcomes in communication, emotional wellbeing, independence, social connection and family relationships. At OmniMusic, 100% of teachers reported improved communication skills and 90% saw better wellbeing. The programme is now scaling further, with seven more partners selected for Year 2, extending support to another 800 children in 2026.
